The last day of the meet offers Michigan’s top juveniles one last chance to prove themselves in Sunday’s $20,000 Budweiser Futurity at Mount Pleasant Meadows.

Each horse in the full field of 10 entries will be trying for his or her first stakes breakthrough in the 400-yard event.

One of two horses to post the fastest qualifying time in the Budweiser Futurity Trials was Uno Corona, at 20.39 seconds. The Corona For Me filly has had a globetrotting juvenile campaign, with starts at Manor Downs, The Red Mile, Hoosier Park and Mount Pleasant. The Oil Capital Derby will the first time she has made multiple starts at one track, after winning her trial by 1 1/2 lengths on Sep. 13. Oscar Delgado retains the mount for owner Ignacio Soto and trainer Rolando Almanza.

Fearless Fred also stopped the clocks in his trial with the fastest time of 20.39 seconds. The Fredricksburg gelding won his Sep. 13 trial by two lengths. Carol Rettele trains Fearless Fred for owner Walter Harrison. Richard Rettele will have the mount.

The winner of the third trial, Fishin For A Lady is also entered in Sunday’s final. The Fishin Kisses gelding crossed the wire in 20:53 seconds in his Sep. 13 trial, a length and a half ahead of the runner-up. Fishin for a Lady is owned by R and R Racing Stable LLC and trained by Tony Cunningham. Rafael Fernandez picks up the mount for the Oil Capital Derby.

Hez Fastforthecash will go for his first stakes win of 2009 in Sunday's Oil Capital Derby at Mount Pleasant Meadows.

After a series of stakes near-misses, Hez Fastforthecash will try to get back on the winning side of the blacktype in Sunday’s $10,000 Oil Capital Derby at Mount Pleasant Meadows.

The winner of the 400-yard contest will notch his or her first stakes win of 2009.

Hez Fastforthecash has been in the hunt in his three stakes tries this year, but has not managed to break through like he did in his 2008 campaign. Last year, the Heza Fast Man gelding won stakes races at Mount Pleasant and Beulah Park. Hez Fastforthecash comes off a third place effort in the Aug. 2 Midwest Maturity at Mount Pleasant. Carol Rettele trains Hez Fastforthecash for owner Coronet Farm. Richard Rettele will get the leg up.

Trainer Renee Wilson will send a three-horse entry to the post in Sunday’s race. Among them is Take Off Reb, who returns to Mount Pleasant after spending most of 2009 at Ajax Downs. The Take Off Jess colt has a successful history in Michigan, having won last year’s MPM Futurity at Mount Pleasant Meadows. He enters the Oil Capital Derby off a fourth place finish in an Aug. 16 allowance race at Ajax Downs. Take Off Reb is owned by Richard Connelly and will have the services of Nate Alcala in the saddle.

Wilson also conditions Oil Capital Derby entrants Makeitdo Bobbie and Square and Fair.

Also entered is Hez Fastforthecash’s stablemate, Anniversary Annie. The First Wrangler filly enters the gates off a runner-up finish in the Aug. 30 GLQHA Stallion Service Sale Derby. Glenmore Mayhew will ride Anniversary Annie for owner Mark Mercer and trainer Carol Rettele.

Holst sends out five in Michigan Juvenile Derby

Catch Me Ridin Dirty brings a two-race winning streak into Sunday's Michigan Juvenile Derby at Mount Pleasant Meadows.

Trainer Nicole Holst will try to reap the benefits of her stable’s strong three-year-old Arabian crop by sending five of the seven entries to post in Sunday’s $5,000 Michigan Juvenile Derby at Mount Pleasant Meadows.

The six-furlong race is the entire field’s first start in stakes competition.

Leading the charge is Catch Me Ridin Dirty. The three-year-old Aransas Hf gelding has never finished behind a three-year-old in his five career starts, of which he has won four. Catch Me Ridin Dirty enters race off a seven-length victory in a Sep. 13 allowance race at Mount Pleasant. He is owned by Diana Jackson and will be ridden by Nate Alcala.

Damasing will run under the Holst colors from the outside post. The three-year-old Chndaka filly has won two out of her three career starts and comes off a third place finish in a Sep. 13 allowance race. Owned by Lapco Arabians, Damasing will have Oscar Delgado in the saddle.

Outside of the Holst barn, Owner Tom Fritz and trainer Mario Fritz will send Helfire to try and break his maiden in the stakes race. The three-year-old Haffir El Rimal gelding enters the Michigan Juvenile off his first career start, a runner-up effort in a Sep. 13 allowance race at Mount Pleasant. Tasha Fritz will have the assignment in Sunday’s race.
